Persian Gulf Forever
The Persian Gulf is as old as human civilization. This waterway has been among the first regions whose resources have been exploited by man. Human habitation in the Nile Delta and on the banks of the Tigris and Euphrates caused the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf to come into focus. For this reason, the scientists of the ancient world studied these regions and referred to them in their works. In recent decades, for the first time the forged name "Arabian Gulf" instead of the internationally recongnized term "Persian Gulf" was used by Abdul-Karim Qassem after his coup d'etat in Iraq in 1958, which was faced with the protest of the Iranian (Persian) government. Following these events, in 1960 Gamal Abdel Nasser, the then president of Egypt and the Arab League, announced that thereafter the name "Arabian Gulf" would be used in place of the persian Gulf, and the Persian province Khuzestan would be an inseparable part of the Arab world. The issuance of such a statement led all Arab countries to gradually use the forged name "Arabian Gulf" instead pf the proper term "Persian Gulf". Even the Persian Gulf littoral states, which had friendly relations with Iran (Persia), followed their example.Although international organizations and reputable cartographic institutions have accepted the realities concerning the name "Persian Gulf", in a few cases they have yielded in the face of Arab petrodollars, or by following the goals of their own governments, they have distorted historical geographic names.
